Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching postgraduate courses in security studies or related disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of security challenges in the Pacific, including geopolitical influences, transnational threats, climate security, and regional governance.
  • Familiarity with key regional security frameworks, such as the Pacific Islands Forum Boe Declaration and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
  • Experience working with governments, security agencies, or regional organizations on security-related policies or initiatives.
  • Ability to contribute to policy debates and public discussions on Pacific security.
  • Ability to mentor junior faculty and postgraduate students.
  • Experience in program development, academic administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment, particularly in the Pacific region.
  • Tertiary teaching experience.
  • Wide breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in one or more area of security
  • Computer proficiency in the standard packages (Moodle, word processing, e-mail and internet use, and spreadsheets)
  • Knowledge of traditional Pacific security practices and indigenous approaches to conflict resolution.
  • Experience with cybersecurity, intelligence analysis, or defense policy.

Minimum Requirements

  • A master's in security studies, International Relations, Political Science, Strategic Studies, Criminology, Sociology or a related field with extensive professional experience in security policy.
