About the Organisation
Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision, and agility.
Through collaborative work with partners, MiCT fosters transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies. Operating across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates journalist training, media content production, research, monitoring, and supports the financial sustainability of media partners.
Since 2022, the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices has supported at-risk journalists and media professionals from conflict regions, enabling them to continue their essential work in safety. The programme is part of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and a member of the Journalists in Distress Network. It offers stipends, security and equipment support, (mental) health services, legal aid, relocation, and professional development through regional hubs.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the selection process of Fellows with two other jury members and headquarter team
- Take part in vetting of journalists, including application review, security checks and verification of journalist credibility, including interviews where necessary
- Strategic guidance on trainings, events, and administrative tasks associated with the Fellowship program.
- Provide ongoing strategic insights and security updates on the media landscapes in the West Asia and North Africa
- Offer security and professional advice to support MiCT’s mission and guide the development of new concepts and projects for media freedom and journalist safety in the region.
Minimum Requirements
- Regional Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the media landscapes and challenges in the West Asia and North Africa
- Networking Skills: Strong ability to build partnerships and engage a diverse range of stakeholders, with established networks in the media sector.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English and Arabic is required
- Passion and Commitment: Strong commitment to media freedom, human rights, and empowering independent journalists and experience in handling of sensitive information
Working Conditions
This freelance role is project-based, contingent on the grant, to be implemented between September 2026 and June 2027. Expected volume may be 30 days total, though implementation is needs based and no minimum number of days may be guaranteed. MiCT offers a flexible work environment with a workspace in Berlin, Beirut or Tunis for the manager’s use. Remote applicants are welcome to apply.
