About the Organisation

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision, and agility.

Through collaborative work with partners, MiCT fosters transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies. Operating across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates journalist training, media content production, research, monitoring, and supports the financial sustainability of media partners.

MiCT is procuring a proactive Project Coordinator to support on-the-ground project activities in Baghdad, facilitate cross-border editor linkages across the MENA region, and coordinate workshops and editorial mentorship cohorts for media professionals in Iraq.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cross-Border Network Facilitation: Coordinate open calls for media outlets, organize online matchmaking sessions, maintain shared communication channels, and track editorial production schedules across participating MENA networks.
  • Local Event & Workshop Coordination: Organize full operational logistics (venue selection, equipment, catering, secure transport) for in-person training workshops, mid-point review sessions, and closing conferences in Baghdad.
  • Financial & Administrative Documentation: Collect, verify, and organize all field financial records, including signed participant attendance sheets, vendor invoices, expense receipts, proof of payments, and signed grant/stipend contracts, ensuring prompt submission and compliance with MiCT HQ financial standards.
  • HQ Coordination & Direct Reporting: Work in close daily coordination with the Project Manager, and MiCT HQ project team, reporting on activity progress, participant status, operational challenges, and workshop outcomes.
  • Participant & Outlet Management: Coordinate recruitment and application intake for participating journalists; manage participant communication, contract collection, and story publication verification.
  • Editorial Safety & Protocol Implementation: Assist mentors and program leads in reviewing security protocols for field reporting, maintaining discrete communication channels, and ensuring ethical source protection in line with MiCT guidelines.
  • Monitoring & Data Collection: Gather baseline data, pre/post-workshop evaluation assessments, published media links, and metrics to support M&E reporting to MiCT HQ.

Minimum Requirements

This freelance role is project-based, contingent on the grant, to be implemented between September 2026 and February 2027.

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or Event Management.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of practical experience coordinating complex projects, trainings, or research initiatives in Iraq.
  • Established professional contacts within the Iraqi media sector and civil society.
  • Prior experience handling sensitive topics, such as gender-based violence, protection, or human rights reporting.
  • Languages: Native Arabic speaker with strong working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
