About the Organisation

An opportunity has arisen for a Backfill Engineer to join our Golden Grove operation in Western Australia. In this role, you will report to the Backfill Superintendent and work on an 8:6 roster.

Your focus will be on supporting underground mining operations by developing and managing backfill strategies that ensure safe production and long-term mine stability.

Our ideal candidate will be a Mining Engineer with experience in underground environments and exposure to paste or CHF backfill systems.

29Metals is an ASX-listed mining company producing copper and other base and precious metals critical to the global energy transition. Headquartered in Melbourne, we also have support offices in Perth and Brisbane.

We operate two long-life assets: Golden Grove in Western Australia and Capricorn Copper in Queensland, along with a portfolio of exploration interests, including a strategic tenement package and a project in Redhill, Chile.

Golden Grove is a high-grade underground mining operation producing copper, zinc, and precious metals. With a mine life exceeding 10 years, it has strong potential for further extension. The site is currently undergoing an expansion, including the development of a new mine, the extension of existing operations, and major infrastructure upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and managing backfill strategies to support safe mining and tailings management.
  • Designing fill plans based on mining cycles, along with reticulation and wall plans to ensure safe and efficient pours.
  • Collaborating with plant operators to ensure high-quality material production and accurate data reporting.
  • Conducting inspections and overseeing the placement of paste, CHF, and rockfill.
  • Maintaining QA/QC programs and ensuring compliance with Fill Management Plans and risk assessments.
  • Driving continuous improvement and contributing to budget and schedule planning.

Minimum Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of backfilling, CHF pastefill, or rockfill operations.
  • Proficiency in mining software packages.
  • A current C-class manual driver’s licence.

Working Conditions
