Role Summary
UK-Med is seeking a Communications Coordinator/Senior Communications and Media Officer in Dnipro, Ukraine, to enhance media relations and support emergency communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with UK-Med’s headquarters fundraising and communications specialists to develop a nationwide communications policy.
- Travel to programme locations to document success stories and publish them on websites for wider distribution.
- Produce high-quality written and photographic content.
- Develop and design high-quality leaflets and communications materials showcasing UK-Med’s work in Ukraine.
- Transform reports received from programme teams and partners into effective, accessible communications materials in English and Ukrainian, and distribute them to key stakeholders, including Ukrainian and international media.
- Train and build the capacity of key UK-Med Ukraine programme staff to identify and document success stories, case studies, media content and press releases.
- Support the preparation of internal reports on programme developments in Ukraine, as well as presentations and updates highlighting UK-Med’s work and achievements for national authorities, hospitals and other stakeholders.
- Advise UK-Med’s Senior Management Team on innovative approaches to media engagement and internal communications.
- Support managers and the Ukraine Programme Director in preparing briefings for donors, visitors, local media and high-level meetings.
- Attend internal project launch, implementation and review meetings to remain informed about programme activities, progress and status.
- Prepare and distribute a weekly digest of project activities to project staff and members of UK-Med’s Senior Management Team.
Minimum Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications or an equivalent field.
- At least four years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience working for a humanitarian organisation would be a significant advantage.
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
- A sound understanding of humanitarian principles, humanitarian communications and ethical storytelling.
- An understanding of donor visibility and branding requirements.
- Experience supporting senior management with communications and media engagement.
- Strong written English and Ukrainian skills, which will be tested. English proficiency must be at least B2 level.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite—particularly Final Cut, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign—is desirable.
- An innovative and creative approach to developing, generating and presenting content.
- Strong skills in formatting and producing high-quality public information materials. Candidates will be asked to provide samples of previous written and/or digital content.
- The ability to network, build partnerships and coordinate with other NGOs and healthcare organisations.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

We are looking for an experienced communications professional with a background in media relations, strong communication and public-engagement skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with government and health authorities, local communities and internally displaced people.
The primary purpose of this role is to serve as the focal point for the organisation’s communications, provide strategic advice to senior management, coordinate media relations and support communications during emergencies. The postholder will plan and regularly travel to programme locations to document activities and ensure that UK-Med’s work is presented accurately, ethically and effectively.
