Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree in social science, law, human rights, environmental and social safeguards, international development, anthropology, or another relevant field.
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience applying environmental and social safeguards in the conservation, development, or humanitarian sector.
- Demonstrated experience translating safeguard policies and standards into practical measures at the project or field level, including risk identification, mitigation planning, implementation support, and monitoring.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with Indigenous Peoples, local communities, or other affected rights-holders, preferably in relation to conservation, land and natural resource governance, protected areas, or rural development.
- Strong knowledge of international human rights standards and the rights of Indigenous Peoples, including FPIC, participation, land and natural resource rights, cultural rights, non-discrimination, and access to remedy.
- Experience assessing and addressing human rights and social risks associated with conservation activities, including natural resource access, law enforcement, stakeholder engagement, livelihood interventions, and grievance mechanisms.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex or sensitive situations, identify substantive risks and implementation gaps, and develop practical, context-appropriate solutions.
- Evidence of initiative and the ability to manage work independently, identify priorities, follow through on agreed actions, and communicate significant risks clearly and promptly.
- Experience in Central Africa is strongly preferred, together with an understanding of the region’s social, political, institutional, and conservation context.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to sites, including remote locations, and to work directly with country and site teams.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
