Role Summary
Join Luckington Community School as the Chair of Governors, providing strategic leadership to enhance primary education in a nurturing environment.
About the Organisation
Luckington Community School is a small, welcoming and inclusive primary school
situated in the southern Cotswolds. There are currently 42 pupils aged 4–11 on
roll and 2 full-time teachers including the headteacher and 3 part-time
teachers, supported by teaching assistants and support staff. At the heart of
our village community, we provide a nurturing environment where every child is
known, valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential. We combine high
expectations with a rich and engaging curriculum that prepares children for life
in an ever-changing world. Guided by our core values of respect, resilience,
compassion, honesty, forgiveness, reflection and positivity, we strive to
develop confident, happy and successful learners.
We are fortunate to have a committed and supportive Governing Board comprising
staff, parents and members of the local community who are passionate about the
success of our school. However, due to existing professional and personal
commitments, none of our current governors is able to dedicate the additional
time required to undertake the role of Chair. We are therefore seeking an
enthusiastic and capable individual to provide leadership to the Governing Board
and help drive the success and future direction of our school.
Working closely with the Headteacher, the Chair leads our Governing Board in
setting the strategic direction, vision and values that guide our school
community. The Chair provides both support and constructive challenge to school
leaders to help secure the best possible outcomes for our pupils. The Chair is
responsible for leading Governing Board meetings, ensuring that governors work
collaboratively and fulfil their statutory responsibilities, including oversight
of safeguarding, finance and educational performance, while also ensuring that
decisions are made in the best interests of our children and wider school
community.
As an ambassador for our school, the Chair builds positive relationships with
parents, staff, governors, local organisations and external partners. Whilst no
previous Chair experience is necessary the role requires strong leadership,
communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to think
strategically, make balanced decisions and foster effective teamwork. Above all,
the Chair should be committed to our school's values, passionate about education
and dedicated to helping our school continue to thrive for the benefit of all
pupils.
The Chair of Governors role is voluntary and requires a commitment of time
throughout the school year. The Governing Board typically meets once each term,
with additional preparation required to read meeting papers and agendas. The
Chair will also meet regularly with the Headteacher, support governor
recruitment and development, and may attend school events, training sessions and
occasional meetings with external stakeholders.
